Requirements: Internet connection, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Plus subscription, 5.9 GB of free space, hunting spirit
Quests: The beta features 3 quests across 2 environments from the game. In the Ancient Forest, you can hunt a fierce yet beginner-friendly Great Jagras or as a more experienced player confront the mighty threat of an Anjanath. In the Wildspire Waste, a massive, dry expanse with swamplands, you can face off against the intermediate level mud-slinging Barroth.
Rewards: In addition to an unquantifiable amount of fun, complete each quest and you’ll get some useful bonus items in the full game! Just make sure you use the same Sony Entertainment Network account for both the beta and the full game.
Additional Notes: Each quest can be done solo or with up to three other players online, and you’ll be able to choose from 14 different weapon types based on your preferred playstyle, which you can now change during quests at camp. You can even try out each of them before heading out on a quest by visiting the series’ all-new Training Room, included in the beta! Potions and other supplies will be provided on quests during the beta, but you’ll have to fetch your own food and drinks outside the game for those long gameplay sessions.
And one final note - this beta is just a taste for what the quests will look and feel like in the full game. The beta features a game currently in development and some aspects about balance may be different from the full game, but the satisfaction of tracking and bringing down a giant monster you’ll find is all there.

- According to producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, the story will take around 40-50 hours to complete. Of course, a Monster Hunter game does not end at the story credits, and Hunters can continue to upgrade their weapons and armor.
- Art director Kaname Fujioka mentioned that event quests will come out on a weekly basis.
- The Coral Highlands have areas that are above or below other areas, but this comes from the developers directly building off the knowledge gained in making vertical areas from Monster Hunter Tri all the way to Monster Hunter 4.
- In creating the maps, the developers focused on features that could provide gameplay variety, so that every hunt would be different.
- The design crew visited many areas of Australia, which heavily inspired the Ancient Forest and Wildspire Waste.

Alongside returning series' Elder Dragons, the storm-calling Kushala Daora and the inferno-cultivating Teostra - who seem to be able to spawn on the same map, a series first as well as what seems like a tacit confirmation that the Tundra and Volcano are directly connected! - players also have a new, as-of-yet unnamed Elder Dragon that makes its home in The Rotten Vale to contend with, alongside the newly announced regular monster Dodogama, a rock-eating wyvern with explosive saliva.
Not shown in the trailer, but confirmed during a Japanese livestream and re-affirmed by Capcom USA with today's press release, is that a final wave of the Monster Hunter: World Beta will hit ahead of launch on January 18th, continuing through the 22nd. Much like the second wave of the Beta it'll contain some new changes - including the challenge to tackle Monster Hunter: World's titular Nergigante ahead of launch on an extremely strict 15 minute timer.
Today's final bit of news comes with the reconfirmation that the title will be receiving free DLC, including new monsters, post-launch with the information that Deviljho will become available to hunt in the spring.
