В интервью японскому журналу Famitsu дизайнер игры Ясуми Мацуно (Yasumi Matsuno) рассказал, что новая игра - скорее "ребилд", чем римейк. Tactics Ogre для PSP использует возможности консоли, чтобы вращать поле битвы и даже позволяет смотреть на сражение сверху. Графический движок полностью обновлён, однако при этом игра не потеряла своей 16-битной атмосферы. Классов воинов стало больше, а в бою могут участвовать одновременно до 30 персонажей, что на 10 больше, чем в оригинальной игре.
